Video Production for FoodCorps, a Non-Profit Organization Connecting Kids to Healthy Food in School
This past April, our Kentucky-based video production team had the incredible opportunity to work with FoodCorps, a national nonprofit dedicated to connecting kids to healthy food in schools. From the moment the FoodCorps Senior Creative Manager reached out, we knew this was going to be a meaningful project — and we were right.
Over three days, we traveled between Lexington and Hazard, Kentucky, filming vibrant community events that celebrated local food, education, and Appalachian resilience. From a family cooking night at Tates Creek Community Center, to a hands-on school garden class where kids learned about vegetables, fruits, and knife skills, and finally to the Perry County Farmers Market, the spirit of collaboration and community pride was unmistakable.
Our job was to tell this story visually — and with purpose. We provided full on-location video production services, capturing professional footage in dynamic environments (if you’ve ever been around kids, you know that you have to keep your head on a swivel and be ready for unscripted moments!) We then followed up with post-production editing to craft several short videos for social media, including a compelling 5-minute video highlighting Appalachian food education, local food access efforts, and the power of collaboration. The final video showcases the incredible work being done by Northfork Local Food, Fayette County Public Schools, and FoodCorps, all working together to improve food access and education in Appalachian Kentucky.
One particular unique aspect of our shoot was an unexpected music performance by Ben Fugate, a FoodCorps service member and one heck of a musician. He wrote an original song just for this video, and we used it as a backing track for the final minute of the video, including some impromptu video clips of him playing.
As a filmmaker passionate about everything related to the outdoors and storytelling, it was personally rewarding to shine a light on the region’s food culture, family values, and grassroots leadership through this project.
