Fall Colors Video and Photo Shoot for Kentucky Tourism

A busy fall season wouldn’t be complete without capturing some of the colors of the changing seasons! A 5-day whirlwind tour saw our small crew running all over Kentucky tourist destinations to film and photograph whatever fall colors we could find. Here’s a brief recap of our shoot, along with a few sample shots from each day.

Day 1

Covington and Northern Kentucky

We started in Northern Kentucky, focusing mostly on riverside parks and their views of Cincinnati. The colors weren’t the best here yet, but the views were still nice!

Day 2

Red River Gorge, Berea Pinnacles

After staying overnight at Natural Bridge State Resort Park, we hustled to get a variety of locations and scenes within a short window of time, as we also had to make it over to the Pinnacles in Berea later that afternoon! We began with some road and ground shots before taking the skylift up to Natural Bridge. A quick lunch and long drive later and we arrived at Berea and started the long trek out to their different overlooks. The setting was amazing here, as the trees were ablaze with color! The leaves had turned into a mosaic of red, orange, and yellow, creating a breathtaking display of nature's beauty.

Day 3

Blue Heron Mining Community, Big South Fork

Next, we made our way down to the Big South Fork region. We stopped at the Blue Heron Mining Community before driving to a couple of other overlooks in the area. The colors were really started to pop and the overlooks were fantastic. We spent most of the day driving from one spot to another, as hiking from point to point would have been much too far, and pretty tough with all of the equipment.

DAY 4

Barren River Lake State Park, Mammoth Cave National Park

Day 4 we woke up before sunrise and caught some nice light across the lake at Barren River Lake State Park, but quickly had to head over to Mammoth Cave National Park, where we focused on overlooks but also got a nice shot of the main cave entrance. We felt pretty lucky as the weather continued to cooperate as we continued our tour de colors!

day 5

Elk and Bison Prairie (Land Between the Lakes), and Amish Country in Marion, KY

On our final day, we had another early start, but I’m so glad we did since we were able to capture some stunning elk and bison herds at the Elk and Bison Prairie at Land Between the Lakes. We even saw a fox, coyote, and an armadillo! After an exciting morning, we wrapped up with a driving tour through Marion, KY, known for its amish communities and rolling hills.

The colors of the leaves were so vivid and striking, it filled me with a renewed appreciation for the delicate balance of nature. Overall, taking photos of the leaves changing colors in the fall was a truly rewarding and enriching experience. The beauty of the natural world never ceases to amaze me, and I am grateful for the opportunity to capture it through my camera lens.
